The law of sowing
The promise has always been the problem. If faith is being sure of what l hope for, the promise is that hope. Paul says hope doesn't disappoint because of God's love. He's a good God who gives good gifts to His people. I'm encouraged to remember the stories of Abraham, David, and Jesus. In all these stories, there is a killer wait period however.
When God gives me a promise, it isn't just for me. He gives gifts so we can bless others. Therein lies the problem. Some promises I couldn't hold onto right now if He gave them. There's some character formation needing to occur before I can be fully blessed and bless others. Some of it is daily habits that need to be formed. Other times, He simply wants me to know it's His doing, not some lucky coincidence or slide of hand. Someone said this week, "In order for God to do the impossible in my life, I have to have impossible situations." The promises God gives us are impossible. So are His commands. That's the point, the reason Jesus said, "Without Me, you can do nothing."
What do I do with my impossible promise? I pray. I meditate on those who have gone before. I fellowship with those who are here now. And, I sow into my promise now by living as if my promise is already here. The soil is good in the garden of my heart. What I put in there will grow and produce a harvest. I want there to be food to share. So I am weeding out rage, pride, swearing, lust, and self pity. I am planting love, truth, kindness, goodness and mercy. And I am trying to be patient, knowing that He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it.
I am learning not to lose heart before my harvest comes, to know which season it is. May you know and understand God's will and plan for your life today.
